We all care about the security of our homes and feeling safe where we live. This month, we wanted to share our top tips for ways to keep your apartment secure!
- The number one way is by ensuring you lock all windows and doors when leaving your home. In fact, 34% of break-ins occurred by entering through an unlocked entrance. So, ensuring you have locked windows and doors is key.
- You should also be vigilant about closing the front doors to the building when you enter to prevent anyone who does not live in the building from entering. If you do see any suspicious activity around the apartment buildings, report it to staff right away so we can take necessary action.
- Additionally, it's important to keep your apartment keys secure and only share them with current residents of your unit. This helps prevent unauthorized copies and reduces the risk of lost or misplaced keys.
- Another top tip is to build connections with your neighbours! Familiarizing yourself with your community will make it easier to spot suspicious activity, support each other in emergencies, and feel more secure being aware of the faces that surround you.
- Finally, make sure to keep your full address off social media. Safety online is important, and sharing your home address on any public profiles can make you a target for burglary as well as other scams. Keeping this information out of the public eye can help you to remain safe both in your home and online.
As always, know you can reach out to the main office if you have any concerns about the security of your apartment. We want to help you feel safe at all times, so if you need any repairs to doors, windows, or locks, let us know as soon as possible!
